Tony’s passion for meteorology began as a child when thunderstorms sparked both fear and curiosity, inspiring him to understand the physical processes behind weather phenomena and how meteorologists forecast them. He earned his B.S. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma before pursuing his M.S. at Northern Illinois University and ultimately completing his degree at North Carolina State University. During school, Tony interned at the National Weather Service in Detroit and participated in the In-Situ Collaborative Experiment for the Collection of Hail in the Plains (ICECHIP) field campaign. For his master’s thesis, he developed an automated objective tracking algorithm to create a climatology of mesoscale frontal waves along landfalling atmospheric rivers. Tony enjoys combining meteorology and programming to develop tools that offer new ways to explore and understand weather and its impacts.
